A Note from Jess: Goldie’s Room Reveal: A Makeover Full of Pink Paint, Patience & Personality
I’ve always loved a room makeover. Not just the before-and-after, but the way a space can hold memory after memory. I still remember my own childhood bedroom vividly—the posters, the mismatched bedding, the way I used to rearrange things at least once a month. There’s something special about building a space for your child that you know will be part of their core memories. A space that’s just theirs. This one is for Goldie.
Earlier this year, I gave a little update on Instagram about her room—just a sneak peek, really. But like most things I do, I went full steam ahead... and then paused halfway. Classic me. But we got there. And I’m finally ready to share her finished room (and all the chaos and charm that came with creating it).
The vision started with a custom floral wallpaper. Soft, oversized, and full of whimsy. It instantly set the tone, but something was still missing. That’s when I decided the weinscoting needed to wrap the entire room—not just sit behind her bed as a feature wall. A small tweak that made a big difference.
Then came the paint drama. I walked into the store, proud as punch with my colour reference... only to be told they couldn’t match it. Something about it being UK-exclusive. So, in true chaotic-creative fashion, I picked a new colour on the spot: Piglet Pink by British Paints. I took a gamble, and it paid off. It’s soft without being sugary, warm without being too beige. We used it everywhere: the weinscoting, the cupboard trims, even the backs of the doors.
We added toy storage (the same IKEA toy boxes we used in Levi’s room) and I painted them to match the walls so they almost disappear into the space. Her old IKEA bookshelves got the same treatment. I even found an old side table we weren’t using and painted it to match—now it’s her bedside table. All up, the only new pieces were the wallpaper and the toy boxes. Everything else? Just repurposed with a little paint and a lot of intention.
Goldie was thoroughly spoilt for her birthday (as she should be), and at one point I had absolutely no idea where all her new treasures would go. But with the new layout, toy boxes, and a bit of ruthless organisation, everything found its place. And the best part? She loves it. She’s been showing everyone her room and—the biggest milestone of all—she slept in it. For the first time in years. That alone makes every paint splatter and trip to Bunnings worth it.
This room feels like her. Sweet, calm, playful. And while it might just look like pink paint and floral wallpaper, I know this is where so many memories will be made. Sleepovers, bedtime stories, lazy mornings. The kind of things you remember when you’re older and life feels big.
As a mum, these are the things I find myself romanticising. The mess, the mood boards, the endless decisions over cupboard handles. I hope one day my kids look back and say, “Mum always made our rooms feel special.” Because that’s what this is really about.
And we’re not done yet. The boys’ rooms are next. If you love a good DIY, stick around—things are just getting started.
With love, Jess x
